Two coolers at Man Hong Chinese in Suwanee were not working during a recent routine inspection, resulting in a failing health score.
Cooked pork and chicken, along with pot-stickers and rice noodles in a reach-in cooler were all at unsafe temperatures, according to the inspection report. Raw eggs in another cooler were also too warm. The noodles and eggs were discarded and the meats were moved to a working cooler.
The inspector said the air temperatures were too high the coolers should be maintained in good repair. Man Hong Chinese, 1291 Old Peachtree Road, scored a 56/U. The restaurant had previous scores of 80/B and 100/A.
In other violations, New Zealand green mussels were not in the original box, as required. They were discarded. Points were also taken off because the mussels’ date-of-harvest tags were not on file. The tags must be kept at the restaurant for 90 days after the last mussel is served from its original container.
The inspector said some foods were not stored correctly to prevent cross contamination. Raw fish and raw pooled eggs were stored above ready-to-eat foods and unwashed produced in one cooler. Raw squid and raw shrimp were above fried shrimp and fried chicken in the freezer. These were separated during the inspection.
Spices, sauces and oils were not properly labeled. Insect control devices were installed directly above food on storage shelves and also among single-use food containers. And a hair was found in a container of sugar being used for cooking. The sugar was discarded.
Man Hong Chinese will be re-inspected.
