A Carnesville man was sentenced to eight years in prison last week for a barroom assault on a man following an argument over Barack Obama in 2009.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reported that a Gwinnett County jury convicted Larry Morgan, 39, of smashing a pool stick across the face of an Obama supporter at a Stone Mountain bar after they exchanged words over the newly inaugurated president. The impact of the blow, prosecuters said, left the victim, Patrick O'Neill, with no memory of the attack.

Witnesses said O'Neill, and his friends were ridiculing racist comments Morgan made about Obama.
