Henry County Animal Control received a call July 13 that a raccoon was killed by three dogs on Clifford Court in Stockbridge. The remains of the raccoon were tested and the results came back positive for the rabies virus. The county has issued a 45-day rabies alert for the immediate area and a half-area surrounding Clifford Court. Residents within this area should make sure that all of their companion animals have a current rabies vaccination, and if not, should do so as soon as possible. Additionally, residents should be vigilant of the behavior of not only their own pets, but also of surrounding wildlife (e.g. foxes, skunks and raccoons) that are acting in an unusual manner.
