Two more public hearings are scheduled in August by Cobb County officials for the 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
Not meeting the Atlanta Regional Commission deadline of Sept. 12 puts Cobb at risk of losing its Qualified Local Government Status, which is the way Cobb County is eligible to receive federal and state funding.
Cobb residents are asked to make final suggestions, additions or revisions to the plan which may be reviewed at CobbCounty.org/ComDev.
Public comments will be heard directly after the presentation to the Cobb Board of Commissioners 9 a.m. Aug. 8 or 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at the BOC Meeting Room, second floor, 100 Cherokee St. NW, Marietta.
Mandated by the state, the 2040 Comprehensive Plan is a long-range, community-designed growth strategy to help Cobb County guide and manage expected population and employment growth and coordinate major public investments in public safety, transportation, community facilities and other important elements, according to a county statement.
The current plan was adopted in 2007 followed by annual amendments, covering the time period between 2007 and 2030.
This new 10-year update will extend the current plan’s growth outlook to 2040.
After its return by the ARC around Oct. 31, the Cobb commissioners will vote on final adoption for the Cobb 2040 Plan officially to be in effect.
