The Lawrenceville City Council will hold the two public hearings to discuss the city’s millage rate at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lawrenceville City Hall, 70 S. Clayton St.

The city has tentatively adopted a millage rate that will require an increase in property taxes by 7.14 percent. In previous years, the city has rolled back the millage rate so that there was a net tax savings. By not ‘rolling back’ the millage to 1.890 and adopting a millage of 2.025, the same as last year, the city must advertise a tax increase. The proposed tax increase is approximately $6.75 for a home with a fair market value of $175,000, and approximately $29.70 for a non-homestead property with a value of $550,000.

An additional hearing and adoption of the plan will be at 7 p.m. July 20.

The city’s proposed 2016/17 Budget is available for inspection during normal business hours in the city clerk’s office, 4th floor of City Hall. Lawrenceville will approve the budget at the Aug. 1 city council meeting.
