The Powder Springs City Council voted 5-0 Monday to approve the second phase of the Abbington Trail development to include a hotel, restaurant, medical office space and more senior apartments for ages 62 and above.

Trey Coogle, manager of Rea Ventures, told Mayor Al Thurman and Council there are 36 on the waiting list for the first phase of senior apartments that opened in April at Richard D. Sailors Parkway, Florence Road and C.H. James Parkway.

Abbington Trail Apartments, 3500 Trillium Drive, is a Low Income Housing Tax Credit senior community that was developed by Rea Ventures with only three of the 60 units not restricted by annual income limits of $23,900 to $28,680.

However, only 16 of the 80 units in the new phase will be restricted by income.

Construction is expected to begin on these apartments next summer.

Beneath those apartments in that three-story building would be 60,000 square feet of medical office space, he said.

Also on the 11-acre site, there would be a 6,600-square-foot retail restaurant, a four-story 65,200-square-foot hotel and a three-story 30,000-square-foot free-standing office building with pedestrian streetscape
