A special-needs playground at the Silver Comet Trail Linear Park on Richard Sailors Parkway was opened by Powder Springs officials on Wednesday.

The city received $52,696 from Cobb County and $126,738 was paid to GameTime by a Resurgens Charitable Foundation Grant.

City Manager Pam Conner told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the county funding from the Community Development Block Grant also will pay for other American Disabilities Act features “such as additional parking and any sidewalk extensions or access points for the mobility impaired.”

Already the park has a concession stand, restrooms, a covered picnic area, a playground, a climbing structure, a covered area with a variety of exercise equipment and water fountains for pets and water bottles.

A covered basketball court will be added later.
