Powder Springs Mayor Al Thurman announced recently that the majority of the City Council agreed to drop a financial matter involving one current and three former city elected officials.
However, Thurman said he and Councilwoman Nancy Hudson had wanted the matter resolved either by mediation or through a Cobb County Superior Court lawsuit to seek reimbursement for four unused airline tickets, four new airline tickets and an extra night of lodging.
Those expenses involved money spent by former Mayor Patricia Vaughn, former Councilwoman Rosalyn Neal, former Councilman Chris Wizner and current Councilwoman Cheryl Sarvis for a September 2015 trip to Washington, D.C. for the annual Cobb Chamber of Commerce Fly-In to meet with Georgia’s U.S. lawmakers.
During the City Council meeting, Vaughn said the four of them went up a day early since she was recovering from surgery and were hoping to meet with U.S. Rep. David Scott, D-Atlanta.
Wizner said all of their expenses were covered in the city budget - though he said he has not been reimbursed by the city for a $203 invoice from that trip.
