Powder Springs residents, entities or businesses will have the opportunity to use two Powder Springs facilities for free or reduced rates.

The Powder Springs City Council agreed unanimously Dec. 4 to allow this change for use of the “Coach” George E. Ford Reception Hall and Patricia C. Vaughn Cultural Arts Center at 4181 Atlanta St. behind the Powder Springs Library.

Also, registered charitable, nonprofit and youth organizations or service groups, directly benefiting the Powder Springs community, will be considered.

There will be no rental fee instead of $400 or $800 for the Ford Reception Hall or $600 or $1000 for the Vaughn Cultural Arts Center.

Also, there will be a $150 preparation fee instead of $200, a refundable deposit of $350 instead of $500 for the Ford Reception Hall or $750 for the Vaughn Cultural Arts Center, a signed contract and possibly 15 percent of the admission charge at the Vaughn Cultural Arts Center to maintain this center’s theatrical lighting, sound system and video equipment.

The refundable deposit will be returned within two weeks after the event unless damage is found, property is missing or excessive cleaning is needed.

Beyond the $350, additional charges will equal the amount necessary to cover any damages, property replacement or additional cleaning.

City officials also retain the right to withdraw approval and/or deny future use at any time.
