Powder Springs officials will hold public hearings this month on a proposed property tax increase. City officials tentatively have adopted a millage rate that will require an increase in property taxes by 10.26 percent. However, the millage rate of 8.5 is proposed to remain the same as it has been since at least 2012.

The proposed tax increase for a house with a fair market value of $125,000 is about $39.55. For non-homestead property, the proposed tax increase for a house with a fair market value of $200,000 is around $63.28.

The last two of three public hearings are scheduled for noon July 17 and 6 p.m. July 19 at the Powder Springs Community Development Building, City Council Chambers, 4488 Pineview Drive, Powder Springs. A final vote is set for the July 19 meeting.
