Two grants to the city of Powder Springs have been awarded by the Georgia Municipal Association.
A Safety Grant for $5,800 and a Liability Grant for $10,000 will help the city purchase several items.
They include back-up cameras, a body harness, gas detector, trench box, sign stand, road steel plate, 12,000-pound crane, vehicle lights, a police siren, recertification radar, a police radio and traffic control flags.
GMA Marketing Field Manager Eileen Thomas said, “This program allows each city to stretch their budget dollars and provide a safer work environment for their employees.”
The GMA Safety and Liability Management Grant program was introduced in 2000 to provide a financial incentive to help its 500 member citiess improve their employee safety and general public liability loss control efforts through training and the purchase of equipment or services.
Since the program’s inception, more than 130 cities have received grant money from GMA, including 500 grants of nearly $1.5 million to help fund such items as bulletproof vests, training videos, confined space-entry equipment, reflective safety vests, fire department turnout gear and police department in-vehicle video systems.
Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, nonprofit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its more than 500 member cities.
