A 28-year-old man has been arrested for his reported involvement in several car break-ins that occurred last month, the Sandy Springs Police Department said on Friday.
Kelton Jackson has been charged with nine counts of entering auto and was recently arrested after detectives found him at an extended stay hotel in DeKalb County, the police department said in a statement.
According to police, Jackson’s arrest was made possible after a homeowner took down a tag number once Jackson drove away from his residence.
Jackson told investigators that it wasn’t difficult to commit the crimes because the items he stole were often left in plain sight in the vehicles, according to police . Among the stolen items were golf clubs, purses, wallets, credit cards, laptops, jewelry, cash and clothing.
Police urged people to remove such visible items even if their vehicle is parked in their own driveway.
“If going to a shopping center,” police said in the statement, “put items in the trunk or out of sight prior to arriving at the location. These simple efforts can help prevent residents from being a victim of theft from auto related crimes.”
Jackson has a criminal history that also includes larcenies, drug charges and weapons charges, police said.
