With school starting and more students and golf carts crossing the streets, Peachtree City is reminding drivers and pedestrians about who does and doesn’t have the right of way in mid-block crosswalks and path crossings.

Only pedestrians have the right of way if they are already in the crosswalk, and drivers should yield to them and let them finish crossing. Golf carts do not have the right of way at crossings, and should wait for vehicular traffic to pass before attempting to cross the street. Car drivers should not stop at crosswalks and encourage waiting pedestrians or golf carts to enter; this can be dangerous because vehicles coming the opposite direction might not stop.

Also, golf carts are not allowed on SR 74 or SR 54 crosswalks or sidewalks; they must use designated bridges or tunnels to cross these major roads.
