Peachtree City voters may decide next year whether to change the terms and timing of its municipal elections. The City Council voted 4-1 on May 7 to prepare legislation that would be considered by the General Assembly in early 2016.

The measure would authorize a fall 2016 referendum that, if approved by voters, would shorten existing terms to three years instead of four so the city could hold future elections in even-numbered years.

Council member Mike King said the change would greatly increase voter turnout and save money.
