Peachtree City held the first of its FY2020 budget hearings on June 27, listing already funded items as well as leaving the door open for bonds that would require voter approval to underwrite additional measures.

City Manager Jon Rorie took the City Council through line items in the $39.3 million plan, noting that the city intentionally plans to supplement $38.8 million of expected revenue with $490,000 from cash reserves to fund certain capital projects rather than incur additional debt. Included in the proposed budget are additional police and fire officers and a 2.5 percent cost-of-living increase for staff; expenses being cut include plastic recycling at the public works center and $50,000 in utilities for sports field lighting. The council will hold a second public hearing and vote on the budget on July 18.
