The end of the runway signaled the end of the line for a plan to build 25 luxury townhomes near Peachtree City’s airport.
On Nov. 15 the City Council unanimously denied a request by Chadwick Homes to rezone 5.1 acres off TDK Boulevard on a peninsula bordering Lake McIntosh from general industrial to limited-use residential. The property sits near the end of the runway for Atlanta Regional Airport-Falcon Field and adjacent to the Planterra Ridge Golf Club. The Peachtree City Planning Commission had recommended against the request, and council members voiced concerns about noise, safety, environmental issues and the possible impact the development might have on future expansion of the airport.
The council said it would prefer to see a corporate headquarters or other commercial use more in keeping with the industrial zoning.
