Monument Park in Stockbridge will now be known at Unity Monument Park.

The Stockbridge City Council voted at its April 30 workshop meeting to rename Monument Park. Mayor Pro Tem John Blount presented the proposal to the council. The new name, Unity Monument Park, was approved by a 3-2 vote with Elton Alexander and Neat Robinson voting in opposition.

The council also approved a $500 allocation to restripe one of the tennis courts at Gardner Park so it can be used for pickleball. That motion passed 4-1 with Blount voting against it.

A motion by Alexander to approve amendments to the city’s smoking ban ordinance died for lack of a second.

The council voted unanimously to approve the appointment of John Wiggins as city treasurer.
