Following the recent resignation of Sandy Creek High School Principal Robert Hunter, Fayette County Public Schools has named Richard Smith as interim principal.
The Board of Education accepted Hunter’s letter of resignation on June 17 but did not release any details about his departure, per its personnel policy. Hunter had been principal at Sandy Creek since 2015. Smith has been an assistant principal at SCHS since 2006, and also served as the school’s athletic director. Sammie Real, formerly of Bennett’s Mill Middle School, will replace Smith as assistant principal.
Fayette Superintendent Joseph Barrow Jr. said that Smith “is a proven administrator and will continue to do an excellent job at Sandy Creek High School…. There is currently no set time table for this assignment.”
