Approximately 150 Fayette County teachers have received $25 gift cards from the Fayette County Education Foundation to buy last-minute supplies and materials for their classrooms.
The nonprofit group gave more than $3,700 worth of Amazon cards to the teachers during the New Teacher Induction meeting on July 26, marking the third year of such gifts. The teachers were encouraged to use the foundation’s Amazon Smile portal to earn further charitable funding for the foundation. All Fayette teachers are eligible to apply for $500 competitive grants that the foundation awards each year; such grants totaled more than $11,000 in 2018-19.
The grants and other gifts to support otherwise unfunded school projects and programs are funded through donations to the foundation from local businesses, organizations, individuals and school system employees.
