A consultant has been retained to update Milton’s trail master plan to ensure there’s adequate consideration of “greenway” or off-road trails for pedestrians, bicyclists and equestrians in addition to “on-road” paths for bikes.

Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc., which has worked for the city on current trail and transportation plans, will be paid up to $50,000 under a professional services agreement approved by the Milton City Council. The work is to be completed by Dec. 31.

“The updated plan also will serve to assist the Greenspace Advisory Committee in their assessment of possible greenspace properties as one of their potential evaluation criteria,” according to a memo to the council from Assistant City Manager Carter Lucas.

The first draft of the Milton trail plan was completed in 2007 by a citizens committee working with Georgia Tech and city staff, according to a city website. It was updated in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, approved November, 2012.
