Searches for school superintendents in DeKalb and Cobb counties appeared in limbo Monday, with closed meetings on the hirings continuing. DeKalb's school board had a closed-door meeting Monday on their superintendent search, but Chairman Tom Bowen was not expecting a decision. Three announced finalists all withdrew from consideration. In Cobb, officials refused Monday to confirm reports that Rockdale Superintendent Sam King is no longer in consideration. King also did not return calls seeking comment. The Cobb board has executive sessions set for Tuesday and Wednesday. NANCY BADERTSCHER

A team of scientists from Emory University, Georgia Tech and Texas Biomedical Research Institute have received $5.4 million in federal dollars to develop vaccines that would prevent deadly hemorrhagic fevers.

The National Institutes of Health funds will help researchers work toward a vaccine for the Ebola and Marburg viruses, according to Emory. The viruses can be passed through person-to-person contact, posing a high risk in case of an epidemic outbreak and presenting a possible bioterrorism threat. MISTY WILLIAMS
