The offices of Georgia's Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) will be closed Friday for a furlough day. DFCS is the arm of state government that investigates child abuse and finds foster homes for neglected children, in addition to providing services to support troubled families. While DFCS offices will be closed, some employees will be available to respond to child abuse complaints. Reports can be made to local police if a child is in immediate danger. DFCS has designated three additional furlough days this year: October 7, November 14 and December 30. CARRIE TEEGARDIN

Georgia continues to see an increase in regular telecommuters, despite a decline nationally, according to Mike Rieman, a spokesman for the Clean Air Campaign. The campaign and Gov. Nathan Deal announced the second annual “Telework Week,” to take place from Sep. 12 to Sep. 16. The campaign, which works to convince employers and workers to shift to greener commutes, is holding an educational telework summit on Sept. 15 at the Loudermilk Center in downtown Atlanta.
