Hank Huckaby officially became chancellor of the University System of Georgia on  Friday.

The State Board of Regents hired the former lawmaker in May. Since then he has sat in meetings to prepare for his new job.

Huckaby, who has worked for several state colleges and governors, already selected a vice chancellor for fiscal affairs and an executive vice chancellor to oversee several departments. He plans to have a vice chancellor for academic affairs by Jan. 1.

Illinois-based Cancer Treatment Centers of America has named Kane Dawson as CEO of its new Southeast regional cancer hospital slated to open in September 2012.

Dawson formerly served as chief operating officer at the company’s Eastern Regional Medical Center. In August, workers will break ground on the Newnan facility, which will be the company’s fifth regional location and is expected to generate 500 new jobs and $500 million in economic activity over its first five years of operation.
