The state Department of Transportation has requested bids on daffodil bulbs.
The state spends millions planting roadside flowers. The money comes mostly from road signs that advertise highway stops, and partly from wildflower auto license plate sales.
DOT told bidders it wanted to buy bags of bulbs by the thousand, but has not said how many. Bids are due by Nov. 17. ARIEL HART

Hundreds of churches in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church will observe "Action Ministries Sunday" on Sunday.
Action Ministries, which was founded in 1963, offers programs to help the hungry and those with housing and education needs throughout the state. In 2010, the nonprofit served more than 276 meals and distributed more than 2,276 pounds of food.

Moeller, Jr., president and CEO of Action Ministries said in a statement. “Jobs are still scarce plus many organizations like ours have fewer resources so they are either shutting down or reducing the number of people they serve.” SHELIA POOLE
