Justin Anand, deputy chief of the U.S. Attorney's Office's economic crime division, has been picked to be a U.S. magistrate in Atlanta.

A prosecutor for the past eight years, Anand, 40, will succeed U.S. Magistrate Christopher Hagy when he retires June 1. "I'm thrilled," said Anand, a private attorney in New York before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office. Candidates for magistrate are screened by a panel of lawyers and non-lawyers who then forward a list of recommendations to the U.S. District Court bench, which makes the selection. BILL RANKIN

Real estate and sports franchise mogul Tom Cousins and former U.N. Ambassador and Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young will be inducted as the year's Georgia Trustees on Saturday by Gov. Nathan Deal at a fundraising event in Savannah. The two will be honored for excellence in their work and philanthropic accomplishments at the Georgia Historical Society's annual Trustees Gala, held at the Hyatt Regency.

The original Georgia Trustees was a governing body chartered by King George II in 1732 to establish the new colony. The gala is the finale of the Georgia History Festival. JOHNNY EDWARDS

The jackpot for Saturday's Powerball multi-state lottery climbed to $310 million after no players matched all six numbers in Wednesday night's game.

One Georgia Lottery player matched the first five numbers drawn Wednesday -- 17, 28, 38, 39 and 51 -- but not the "Power Ball," which was 33. That player, along with players in Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska and New Jersey, won $1 million each.

If a single player matches all six numbers in Saturday night's drawing and chooses the Cash Option, that player will receive a one-time payout of approximately $193.4 million before taxes. MIKE MORRIS
