The McDonough City Council voted at its March 18 regular meeting to approve a rezoning request for about nine acres on Hampton Street.

The zoning was changed from R-85 (single-family residential) to RTD (residential townhome district) with several variances that included reductions in front setback, Bridges Road setback and heated living area requirements as well as reducing the required garage size to one-car garages and making the streets within the development private.

No one spoke for or against the request during the public hearing, and none of the council members voted against the petition, although Craig Elrod abstained and Sandra Vincent was not present at the meeting.
