Out-of-district tuition was reduced significantly March 20 by the Marietta Board of Education from $3,550 per student annually to $1,500.

This lower rate will go into effect Aug. 1.

Marietta City Schools has permitted students who live outside the attendance zone to apply for “out-of-district” status.

Parents of these students must submit an out-of-district application; consent to comply with specific attendance, behavioral and academic standards and pay annual tuition.

During this school year, 99 students applied and were accepted as “out-of-district” students.

The district has additional capacity to accept out-of-district students, according to MCS Superintendent Grant Rivera.

This approach will maximize both student access to high-quality programs and district Full-time Equivalent funding, Rivera added.
