Marietta will vote Wednesday on changing how demolition permits are handled for buildings in the downtown historic district. Permits are currently approved by the Historic Board of Review and applicants have three years to raze a building.
If the city council decides to change the process, the council will grant certificates for demolition and not the Board of Review. The time for tear down will be shortened to one year with a six-month extension.
The review board gave council member Philip Goldstein a three-year permit in September to take down a building he owns on North Park Square and Root Street. He plans to take down the Cuthbertson building by the end of the year. Goldstein chairs the council’s judicial/legislative committee that backed the permit changes in a 3-1 vote. Goldstein voted against the measure.
