The Marietta Board of Education voted Tuesday to change the second grade report cards, using numbers instead of letters and more subcategories during the next academic year.

A committee of second grade teachers from every elementary school worked through the school year to develop a format that would provide more specific information on student learning for parents.

Now the second grade report cards will match those of kindergarten and first grade standards-based reports that have been implemented over the last two years.

For instance, instead of one letter grade of A to F for math, it will use 1 to 3 in each of 19 categories on the draft report card.

Overall, nine subjects with no subcategories on the present report card would cover eight subjects of English language arts, reading, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music and physical education but with 53 subcategories in addition to 10 subcategories under learning skills and behaviors.
