The Locust Grove City Council has made its position known regarding the possible relocation of court facilities from the McDonough square.

The council voted at its Sept. 2 regular meeting to approve a resolution in support of keeping the courthouse right where it is, after the McDonough City Council recently voted to place a non-binding referendum on its November ballot to show where citizens stand on the issue. Some county officials in recent months have suggested that moving the already-crowded courts closer to the county jail would be safer by reducing inmate transportation and also allow added space for growth.

McDonough officials have expressed concern about the impact on local businesses as well as the uncertainty about what would replace the courts in the existing buildings.
