In an effort to manage occupancy rates in residential homes, the Lawrenceville City Council voted Wednesday to redefine “family” to include one or more persons related by blood, marriage or adoption or guardianship, or not more than two unrelated persons residing in a single dwelling. The amendment to the zoning ordinance further defines a person as residing in a home if he or she stays overnight for more than 30 days within a 90-day period.

Zoning for a “joint living residence” as opposed to “single-family residence” would apply to a single dwelling occupied by more than two unrelated people.
