A decision on whether to allow a group of Kennesaw State University students to continue residing in a house has been delayed by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners until March 15.
Kevin Jordan is requesting a land use permit to allow more than two unrelated adults to reside in his home.
Commissioner JoAnn Birrell made a motion Tuesday to allow them to remain until May 31, saying she cannot support going against county code to allow more than two unrelated adults.
However, commissioners could change the code when they meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday to consider 85 pages of code changes.
Both Birrell and Commissioner Bob Weatherford noted the need expressed by many KSU students in their districts to reside in houses instead of more expensive housing options on or closer to the campus.
At the request of Commissioner Lisa Cupid, Birrell amended her motion to allow the students to stay until June 30.
Then Cupid voted against Birrell’s motion.
Birrell had Weatherford’s support, but Commission Chairman Tim Lee and Commissioner Bob Ott were absent.
A unanimous vote of the three remaining commissioners was needed to approve the motion.
