A “complete streets” plan for Jones Road in Roswell should offer sidewalks, enhanced pedestrian safety and reduced vehicle speeds, according to a design contract approved recently by the Roswell City Council.

The Council voted to award a $144,578 contract for a topographical survey and a detailed concept plan to Gresham Smith and Partners, an Alpharetta architectural and engineering firm.

Jones Road, between Bowen and Woodstock roads, is to have a sidewalk on each side – one at least eight feet wide with bicycle lanes. Besides addressing speeds and pedestrians, the plan also must deal with sight-distance issues and improve the street’s drainage and visual appearance.

The complete streets concept calls for streets designed not just for vehicular traffic, but for bicyclists, pedestrians and transit as well.
