The Johns Creek City Council has approved a $137,589 contract to install a parking lot consisting of a porous, flexible grid surface intended to ensure a “country road” feel at the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve.
A porous parking lot “has long been desired by the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Association,” Public Works Director Lynette Baker said in an agenda report to the council. The lot will have spaces for 40 vehicles plus three for handicap parking, and will provide a sufficient radius to accommodate a bus turnaround next to the Visitors Center.
Besides being environmentally friendly, the porous lot “will also decrease our parking lot maintenance from three intensive operations per year to only one ‘top dressing’ per year other than the occasional grid repair,” Baker said.
The contract went to Precision Landscape Management, the sole bidder for the job. The length of the contract is 45 days from the Notice to Proceed.
