For the first time since Morrow’s mayor and council passed the fiscal year 2016 budget in an executive session last month, the city has gone public with information about job cuts of city employees.

According to the budget released, at least seven positions with the city were cut, saving over $500,000. The cuts came from the police, court and administration departments.

The executive session was held to discuss cutting certain jobs with sensitive personnel information. According to Georgia law governments should only hold executive sessions to talk about personnel issues, to discuss legal issues that involve attorney-client privilege information and to talk about real estate, but the governing bodies can also opt to discuss those issues in an open meeting to maintain transparency.
