Intruders ransacked the DeKalb County home of an 87-year-old man, taking little of value but leaving the inside of the house trashed, Channel 2 Action News reported.
"It is just so heartbreaking what they've done," the man's daughter, Judy Parker, told Channel 2.
The homeowner, Floyd Thompson, returned to his home near Stone Mountain on Sunday night after being away a few days visiting his children. He discovered someone had gone on a rampage in the house.
Smashed furniture lay in a heap on the front yard of the home when Channel 2 visited. Inside, the intruders urinated and left other human waste.
"They unloaded the closet and unloaded the drawers and just destroyed everything," Parker said.
Thompson lives on just $600 a month in Social Security and had little to steal, family members said. Only a couple of old hunting rifles and a small amount of cash were taken.
Thompson, who is paralyzed and uses a wheelchair, said he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the mess. He said he's felt "angry, hurt, disgusted."
He built the house more than 60 years ago, and he and his wife, who died 12 years ago, raised six children here.
"It's not a house," Parker said. "It's not furniture. It's dreams and memories, what he and my mother built together."
DeKalb County police are investigating.
