University  System of Georgia employees will pay about 5 percent more for health insurance premiums under steps the State Board of Regents took Tuesday. The system has more than 40,000 employees.

The system expects to save about $30 million by limiting access in preferred-provider plans -- a move that affects about 6 percent of those covered.

Also, about 780 employees will lose insurance because the regents increased the minimum number of hours people must work to be eligible from 20 hours to 30. This will save about $1.5 million and mirrors what other states have done, officials said.
