The Georgia Department of Transportation has extended its citizen comment period on proposed alternatives for improving the over-capacity Ga. 20 in the corridor stretching from Ga. 400 in Cumming westward to I-575 in Canton. Comments can now be submitted until Oct. 19 via mail, email or online on the busy stretch of road, which has been estimated to carry as many as 37,000 vehicles a day.
GDOT started out considering an array of improvement ideas a couple of years ago, and has now settled on two possible strategies: widening the highway or widening it with localized bypasses. GDOT will continue tweaking those options as it works toward a draft environmental impact statement. A spokesman said that Forsyth County Schools are off this week and school officials wanted to make sure all involved have a chance to weigh in.
