Fayette County’s high schools had the third highest collective graduation rate in the state this year among school systems of comparable size, according to figures released this week by the county.

The average rate was 90.24 percent, up nearly 1.5 percent over last year, putting Fayette among 71 other Georgia systems with rates above 90 percent and ranking it second within metro Atlanta. The state average this year was 82 percent. Fayette County High showed the greatest improvement, going from 81.4 percent in 2018 to 84.43 this year. The second-highest rise was at McIntosh, which saw 93.93 percent of its seniors graduate in May compared to 91.7 percent last year.

The 2019 graduation rates at Starr’s Mill, Whitewater and Sandy Creek were 93.82, 93.6 and 84.66, respectively, with all schools showing an increase.
