The Henry County Zoning Advisory Board voted at its May 14 regular meeting to approve a variance request for a 21-acre portion of a larger site at the northeast corner of Hwy. 81 and Upchurch Road.

The vote will allow the development of seven large residential lots ranging from 2.3 to 6.5 acres fronting on Upchurch Road, with another seven acres fronting the highway to be developed for commercial uses at a later time. This residential plan was preferred over an alternate proposal that would have meant 21 lots and required a rezoning. The variance grants the applicant relief from several development standards of the highway corridor overlay district.
