The event was not hosted by the Georgia Tea Party as previously reported. The mock debate was started and hosted by Kennesaw State University professors.
The Georgia Tea Party decided to attend the event in lieu of having its regular meeting, but that was the limit of its involvement.
The debate did not take place, but professor Melvyn Fein spoke to a crowd about political viewpoints.
Swint sent an email to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday morning saying that he and White would not be participating in the mock debate later that day.
"We were not informed that the event was hosted by the Georgia Tea Party, and neither of us are comfortable doing a partisan event. I only participate in events that are either strictly academic, or bi-partisan or nonpartisan," Swint wrote.
The organization was not immediately available to confirm if the event was still taking place.

Two Kennesaw State University professors are standing in for the major-party candidates and holding a mock debate.
Sociology professor Melvyn Fein will represent Donald Trump and associate professor of criminal justice and political science Kenneth White will act as Hillary Clinton. The debate will be moderated by the professor chair of political science Kerwin Swint.
The Georgia Tea Party is hosting the event and has billed it as a way to help undecided voters.
The event starts at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Social Sciences Building, 402 Bartow Ave.
