Nearly 19,000 gallons of sewage spilled into Crooked Creek in Peachtree Corners after a tree fell on a sewer line Friday.

The spill happened when a tree fell on the aerial line at 6557 Plant Drive in Peachtree Corners. Gwinnett County was notified at 8:31 a.m. and stopped the flow of sewage at 1:37 p.m. About 18,744 gallons spilled into the creek.

The county repaired the sewer main, informed the state Environmental Protection Division and posted signs to let residents know of the spill.

The spill is not a threat to drinking water, the county said in a statement.

Additionally, a sewer spill in Buford Feb. 12 let about 3,751 gallons of sewage into an unnamed tributary of Sherwood Creek.

That spill occurred at a manhole at 2786 Sori Drive in Buford after someone accidentally left a sewer plug in an active line.

The county also posted signs there and notified the state. It raked the area and spread lime to mitigate the spill’s effects.
