In December, Rest Haven officials approved the de-annexation of another 8.11 acres along Buford Highway. Earlier this month, Gwinnett Commissioners gave their approval to make it official. The commercially zoned property will become part of unincorporated Gwinnett.

Efforts began in 2001 to dissolve Rest Haven after two residents filed complaints arguing the city didn’t provide enough “required services.” A subsequent lawsuit by the grandson of one of the city founders led to a court order reestablishing the tiny city in 2002.

In 2005, Rest Haven began the process of de-annexing portions of the city while allowing Buford to incorporate the properties.

The newly de-annexed property will remain zoned for commercial use.
