Former NFL player Kendall Newson runs a nonprofit called Teach a Child to Fish. He teaches youth to fish, something he has done since he was five years old. Here he is with participants Rico Hill and Richard Crowder.

Rod, reel and luck — er, skill — are all you need for a good time at the youth fishing rodeo Saturday in Cobb County.

Cobb’s Natural Resource Management department staff is holding the event at the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area’s Hyde Farm, 726 Hyde Road, from 9 to 11 a.m.

The county said the age divisions will be 3 to 6, 7 to 9, 10 to 12 and 13 to 16.

There will be trophies for the five biggest fish caught overall.

The event is free, but for more information you can reach out to John Purcell, the county’s recreation programmer, at 770-528-8825 or john.purcell@cobbcounty.org.
