When Georgia Tech's 2,575 freshmen start fall semester Monday they will represent the institution's most diverse class, officials said Thursday.

The class includes more Latino and African-American students and 1,039 women. That's a record for female freshmen and represents an 8 percent increase from three years ago.

University of Georgia and Georgia State University also set diversity records with their freshmen classes. The trend reflects targeted recruiting efforts and increased diversity among Georgia's high school students.
