Georgia Power expects to restore power to 95 percent of users in the hard-hit Augusta region by midnight, CEO Paul Bowers said today as he toured Augusta. And the company expects to restore power to nearly all users by noon Sunday.

But windy conditions have made reaching that goal harder as falling tree branches have caused additional power outages.

Nearly 60,000 Georgia Power customers in the city and suburban Columbia County lacked electricity Friday evening.

As of 3 p.m. today, about 80 percent of users had power, leaving about 28,000 without.

Georgia Power has about 4,500 workers in the region today.

“They don’t want to see anybody without lights on,” Bowers said.
