A metro Atlanta man has been hospitalized after falling over a 30-foot cliff at Glacier National Park, according to a Montana news report.

Andrew Wilkerson, 24, was airlifted off Mount Stanton to a hospital on Tuesday,  the Whitefish Pilot website reported. It said Wilkerson had just finished reaching the 7,750-foot peak at the head of Lake McDonald and was descending with three other companions when he was unable to stop by using his ice ax.

In addition to falling over the cliff, friends say Wilkerson also slid about 80 feet on the snow-covered ground. He was airlifted by helicopter to Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Wilkerson is from Oakwood, Ga., which is southwest of Gainesville. He and his friends work at the Lake McDonald Lodge in Kalispell, Mont.
