Forsyth County commissioners have forwarded three proposals to Cumming officials in the hopes of striking a deal for a new water contract. The current contract expires in late May.

Commissioners Brian Tam, Patrick Bell and Todd Levent each submitted proposals adjusting the rate for treated water and the amount the county must buy. Bell's proposal includes no mandatory purchase of treated water but allows for a rate increase for untreated water from 10 cents per 1,000 gallons currently to 50 cents the first two years of the 20-year contract. After that, the rate would rise to 75 cents and be subject to subsequent consumer price adjustments.

Commissioner Pete Amos, who operates a water supply business in Cumming, did not participate in the discussions.
