Forsyth County Commissioners have decided to hold the county’s millage rate steady this year but property taxes collected by the county will increase due to a growth in the tax digest and some properties being reassessed (which could hike individual property owners bills). Officials said the tax digest is up about 7.65 percent for 2017.

County officials said that the millage rate of 8.036 is an aggregation of the maintenance and operations, fire and bond mill levies. It’s said to be one of the lowest property tax levies in the metro Atlanta area

Forsyth County staffers, the finance committee and the commissioners will utilize the rate in putting together the county budget, which has been under development since March and set to be finalized in November. The budget is expected to come in in the neighborhood of $126 million.
