The city of Fayetteville plans to build a new city hall on property it is buying from the Fayette County Board of Education. The City Council unanimously approved the purchase agreement of the property at 210 Stonewall Ave. on Jan. 25, which includes the school board building and the former transportation complex behind it.

The updated concept plan for downtown Fayetteville includes relocating city offices to a new building, with a multipurpose park south of it and new side streets adjacent to it. Brian Wismer, director of downtown development, said construction of the new city hall would not begin until 2019.

Future plans for the current city hall on S. Glynn Street have not been determined.
